What is a "Custom Knee Brace" and do I really need custom?

A custom knee brace is manufactured based on precise measurements of your leg, and tailored for your specific measurements, injury, goals and activity. With an “Off the Shelf” type brace, your size is grouped with only a select number of braces ie. small, medium, large.

“Custom” means your brace fits perfectly with your knee, measured specifically for you. This ensures a consistent level of protection and comfort without any loss of mobility, while giving you the most support, minimizing any chance of injury.

A custom brace is not always necessary for every injury. It depends on your injury severity and activity goals. As part of our service, we provide a detailed assessment so you can understand what would be best for your unique circumstance.

Does it really matter who measures me for a knee brace?

Unfortunately, measuring a patient for a knee brace is not regulated. This means anyone with no real experience, education or injury knowledge can select and fit a patient for a brace. At Probracing we only use highly trained and experienced professionals. Your brace specialist is an experienced registered physiotherapist who has worked with injured patients using many types of knee braces. So, you can feel confident you are getting the very best recommendations, fitting and education.

How can I be covered for the full cost of a custom knee brace?

If you have private insurance, WSIB or ODSP then you can be covered for the full cost of your brace.

Will wearing a knee brace fix my injury?

Depending on your injury, if you wear the right brace, if it’s measured correctly and you are given the proper advice on activity modification, wearing a brace can help to fix / heal your injury. For many injuries, wearing the right brace will help to decrease pain for a more active life, improve function, postpone surgery and reduce the use of medications.
